Children of the Sea

A Work in Progress by Anne Ruby

Part One: Matthew's Story

"There is no phenomenon that is not subject to the natural and ordinary laws of the universe." — Egerton Sykes (1894-1983)

Children of the Sea

The miracle six-year old Matthew witnesses in Dr. Jack’s veterinary clinic does not fully prepare him for the second miracle he experiences, at the age of ten, in Uncle Rick’s office at Toronto University. Like most people, Matthew always thought that miracles were warm, fuzzy, peaceful events with happy music and angels playing harps, but this second event was more like living through a strange fairy tale and coming home to a world that was never the same again.

What happens when Matthew, his younger brother Jared, and their feisty cousin Lauren venture outside of the eccentric Geology Professor’s office and encounter Ea, the talking Crystal Skull?

Why does the odd Mr. Og and everyone else in the Borderland think the three children are the infamous Sea People? Who exactly are these more-important-than-royalty Sea People anyway? And most important, why are the Sea People being threatened by the evil Serpent Clan?

The journey taken by the three young explorers through the Land of the Fire Giants and the remains of Lemuria to the island of Bimini and the lost city of Murias, doesn’t end at Mr. Sykes’ museum-like home where the gloomy leaders of the world have gathered to discuss the Serpent’s doomsday threat to the earth and mankind. Armed with only the trinkets in their pockets and an overpowering desire to get home safely, the brave trio attend the Final Meeting -- the one that was interrupted twelve-thousand years ago when Atlantis sank into the sea -- in the Royal City of Atlantis, where the Council of Twelve and Petie the Parrot reveal an amazing secret about their Destinies.

But what happens when Matthew comes face to face with the most horrible Serpent-Beast of all?

Will Matthew’s experience inside of the Secret Painting reveal the truth of all the well-kept secrets swirling around him?

Find out for yourself in Matthew's Story and then see what happened to Lauren that same weird day in Lauren's Story.
